They're everywhere, but some are subtle. This is our affectionately termed "Sideshow Bob" fern. It turned all dry and crumbly about mid-December. Look what I found popping up a couple days ago:
The next picture is from the front of our house - they just look like a bunch of sticks...
...but this summer you better believe I'll be loving the blooms of the crepe myrtles and making blackberry pie :)
